#202 HASBRO’S WWF – ROWDY RODDY PIPER, SUPERFLY JIMMY SNUKA, HONKY TONK MAN and HACKSAW JIM DUGGAN (1991)

HASBRO'S WWF - SECOND WAVE (II)

To continue with the second wave of Hasbro’s WWF, I’ll show pics of four new wrestlers, meaning wrestlers that had no figure in the first wave. These four were very popular at the time, although only for a short period of time (a few years).

5. Rowdy Roddy Piper with Piper Punch!

Very nice figure, Roddy Piper featured an exotic Scott, played sometimes the good guy, some other the villain. The move is somehow boring, but the figure with the kilt is quite original. He is wearing a white T-Shirt with the word "Hot Rod", which was another of his nicknames.
Very curious: this character was released in 2007 as a G.I.Joe (25th series), in a very limited convention figure. His duty within the Cobra team was “Iron Grenadier Trainer”

6. Jimmy Snuka with Superfly Slam!

Jimmy Snuka was a great acrobat, so his figure featured the jump. The figure came with its hand making a very particular pose. Note that the fingers are fragile and in some playworn figures are missing. He has Fijian origin, although he grew up in Hawaii.

7. Honky Tonk Man with Rattle and Roll!

Honky Tonk Man’s figure was initially planned to be released as a tag team with Greg Valentine, but this second figure was never released (another figure of this wrestler would be released in wave 3). It is one of the most beautiful figures in the whole collection, because of his great outfit and his guitar.

8. Hacksaw Jim Duggan with Hack Attack! (2x4)

I remember Jim Duggan for being very funny, he played the crazy guy with a good heart, so I guess he was very popular. He always came to the fight with a wood stick named “2x4”, which became his trademark and his nickname.

Spanish Filecard

I forgot to mention that these figures were available from 495 to 700 or 800 pesetas, thats 3 to 5 Euros or 3,8 to 6,5 dollars, although in America, they were probably cheaper than that. I found a picture from a Christmas Catalogue in which Jim Duggan appears together with three figures from the first wave.

Taken from Toys 'r' Us Christmas catalogue (1994)

  1. I had forgotten that Hasbro made these! It is so interesting how many toy lines have passed the torch for WWE/WWF lines. The older lines are also just special.

  2. Unfortunately without wrestler women... Shame that they never made figures from the G.L.O.W. wrestling show.
I saw, however, in your blog some kind of wrestler bootleg that is a woman. Very interesting toy.
    Thanks for the comment!
